Ladies Section is this year celebrating its 25th anniversary

The Ladies Section is this year celebrating its 25th anniversary and has enjoyed another successful season. We have a new Lady President, Jill Douglas and we enjoyed a trip to the Majors Parlour to mark our anniversary. The First XV play in the Championship South Division, the 2nd tier of Ladies rugby. They finished the season in 3rd place, a slight improvement on 4th place last year and our highest ever league finish. We continue to be by far the most senior team in the County.

This is the third season we have fielded a 2nd team in the leagues, one of only a handful of clubs country wide, who do so outside of the Premiership. However, despite promotion in the inaugural season of the 2nd XV and good numbers of players currently registered, we have consistently struggled to field two teams on the same day, nevertheless, the 2nd team has completed all league fixtures.

We are in the process of restructuring our coaching team, with one excellent addition already confirmed, we hope to have one of the best ladies coaching set ups in the South West. As ever due to the amount of travelling (last season six trips with over 250 miles travelled- on a Sunday) funding is always a challenge and the girls and the club are working hard to encourage more sponsorship.

At this stage of the season in the ladies’ game, attention now turns to representative matches and, as usual, we have some 10 players involved with the County squad. For the first time, the counties are to play a knock-out competition orchestrated by the RFU and we wish Gloucestershire and our representative ladies well in the coming month or so.
