Matson ease past Cheltenham to go in touching distance of securing league title

Matson have gone within only one point of sealing the Western Counties North title by executing an incredibly one-sided victory over Cheltenham at Newlands Park. The men from Redwell Road were relentless on Tuesday evening, sailing over the whitewash eight times and seemingly in a rush under limited daylight.

Matson were in full control from the very start although it took 17 minutes before lock Mike Barton managed to squeeze over in the right corner to break the deadlock.

Fly-half Reece Boughton missed the conversion but was imperious with the boot for the rest of this encounter, striking the ball well from the tee although the majority came from comfortable positions under the posts as was the simplicity of Matson’s job midweek.
