Update from the Management

The Exec Committee is now 11 strong with all parts of the club represented. It meets on the first Tuesday of each month with a further Finance meeting taking place on the third Thursday of each month.

Last season recorded a record profit for the Club with all those funds being reinvested into the Club, a new Main rugby pitch (Legacy field) major improvements to the showers/hot water and changing rooms, some additional work to the pitches and some new kitchen equipment. Club memorabilia and history is now on view for all to see and appreciate.

Newlands was purchased in 2007, so the Club was nearly 120 years old before actually owning its own ground. It has taken a few years to build some momentum, however the transition of the Mens and Ladies Teams from the Prince of Wales this season and the accolade of being a RWC2015 Team Base has really moved us forward.

The committee has continued to work hard over the season, improving the Club, coaching and general experience of attending our facilities at Newlands.

During the year we took the time to canvas the membership on what was important to them moving forward, a draft strategic plan was formulated, discussed at a members meeting, further amendments were incorporated and the final plan was submitted to the membership for approval in February this year. The plan has now been adopted and an action plan is now in place. We are hopeful of achieving planning permission for the MUGA in the next few months, a number of other smaller projects have already completed, with a financial plan being completed for the new Changing room block and our ultimate aim is to install an All Weather pitch ‐ a big ask but we all consider achievable.

This season has seen improvements in membership, playing numbers from Under 6’s up to Vets, Ladies and girls. We are branching out into O2 touch rugby, played on Monday nights throughout the summer (a game that is fun, will help your fitness and is for all!) We are looking at other sports as well and have an improving base of summer activities and events at Newlands.

One thing we are trying hard to improve is our communication skills, we now have an increasing activity on many social media vehicles, however have much more to do.

Sponsors are vital to us and everything we are trying to achieve. We have worked at making our sponsors “partners” and we continue to take advice to improve our packages and it is important that all businesses see being part of Cheltenham Tigers as mutually beneficial.
