The Chairman’s January 2020 Update

13th January 2021

Dear All,

Happy New Year to everyone, as we all look forward to a more prosperous 2021!!

It may seem like wishful thinking at the moment as we start to try and manage another lockdown. However, we need to remain positive and make the best of where we are and look out for other club members who may not be as fortunate as some.

We have been undertaking lots of planning for numerous events, sadly all now on hold, but if we do come out of lockdown in time, I am hopeful we can hold some Six Nations events at the club with food, rugby banter, and a few beers/wines/Proseccos. Also race week, clearly there will be no crowds at the course so one of our biggest revenue streams of the year is lost too us. Our current thoughts if we are allowed, will be to open the club for a club members/sponsors/family during race week. As previously planned table booking we expect will be required, and a full hospitality package will be laid on, fingers crossed. We will keep you updated

We are still hopeful of some rugby before the end of the traditional season, with a plan to run through May and June to make up for some of the lost time, again if permitted. We will be putting some more emphasis on fitness, touch and skills for all groups and teams.

Behind the scenes the new Men’s Coaching group have been very active, planning sessions, ethos and culture through the club, some ideas are being investigated with a 16-18 academy/pathway and Friday night lights program is still a major ambition for us.

One positive is we are still able to host Elite Sport and are delighted to confirm some Premiership academy games as the below schedule (sadly at this stage no spectators or clubhouse, but that will be reviewed nearer the time.

Roger Whitfield our Hon Fixture Secretary has been busy planning ahead and below is a schedule of confirmed pre-season fixtures for the men, providing motivation and a target when we can actually get going again.

Hamish is busy planning food menu’s for our return, these will be publicized when we are allowed to open and he looks forward to providing a service you can all support, whether on a training night, weekends or just for a bit of socializing (if we can remember what that is!)

As mentioned previously one of our new focuses is the internals of the clubhouse, something many of you mentioned as a concern in our recent club-wide questionnaire. Bee Mocellin has volunteered to take the lead on this project, see her comments, below. The Committee ore hopeful of a big club effort to support this initiative.

As always, if you are able to help the Club in any way, please email clubhouse@cheltenhamtigers.com for further information.

Best Regards,

Steve Ratcliffe, Club Chairman
