July 2021: Historian Report

5th August 2021
  1. An enquiry about a past player Mr Frederick Hillenbrand the son of a German immigrant who played first for Naunton Park and then CRFC in 1909. Pictures and any relevant information emailed to relatives.
  2. Visit on 30/06/21 by Mr John Dennison of FRANCOURT EVENTS and the founder of The World Rugby Memorial in Laon, France. Wartime archives shown to him and names of club players who died on the Somme given to him for inclusion in an online database of rugby players who died in conflict. Invite to arrange a youth team and possibly a 15s tour when circumstances allow.
  3. Notified by Mr Neville Burne of the death of Mr Bob Hedges from Weston Super Mare RFC on 5thJuly aged 84. He Played Full Back for Cheltenham RFC in the late 1950s.
  4. Contacted by Mr David Moore who is the 4 generation Moore to play for CRFC. The first being E.W. Moore who was club president in 1905 when the All Blacks played at the Athletic ground.

 

A busy month with enquiries about past players.

August will see the first games played since lockdown began in early 2020, with some friendly warm-up matches ahead of the new season starting in September.
