Many of our girls now have other sporting commitments and can’t get to the 10.15 am morning sessions. Some of our girls are more comfortable doing non-contact rugby and some want to play matches. We have found that we have a very mixed range of age, ability, and intention.

To try and meet the needs of all our girls we have decided to change the way we operate. The Sunday morning sessions are to be temporarily suspended. We hope that what we are offering in place will be more appealing and suit all our members.

Any girls in the under 10 and under 11 age range can join the existing Mini and Junior teams. The girls will have the opportunity to play matches if they want to, whereas they can’t until they are in the Under 13 category in a girls-only team. I know both the managers personally (one is my husband!) so can guarantee the girls will be welcomed and made to feel part of the team. Please let us know if your daughter will be joining these sessions so we can inform the coaches.

Any girls in the Under 15 and Under 13 age range have been given a great opportunity to play matches with Minchinhampton/ Tewkesbury/Hucclecote to form a super team of various clubs. The rugby family is so friendly and welcoming – we all just want the girls to get stuck in and have fun playing rugby, regardless at the moment of what colour shirt they wear.

We are also excited to provide two NEW training sessions to run alongside our existing and very popular Pitch Up and Play (PUAP) sessions. These will run on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 – 7 pm.

Wednesday is currently non-contact, mixed-sex, mixed ability, and open to all ages session (including adults who want to have a run around).

The Friday session is currently a girls-only non-contact session.

At both of these sessions, we will now be offering extra contact training for GIRLS ONLY with our existing Sunday coaches. This way we meet the needs of those who want to continue with contact and those more comfortable with non-contact. They will be able to join in with either at these sessions as part of their membership.

Members just need to show their membership card at the gate to get free entry (otherwise £2 per player).

Any parental support would be massively appreciated at these two sessions too so if you’d like to help out please let us know. We hope you can understand the reasons we feel we need to change the Sunday morning session and hopefully we are now offering a lot more – potentially 3 rugby sessions a week instead of 1!

Minnie is going to be coaching the girls and also taking over the communication on Heya so please let her know if you have any questions or you can contact me and I’ll try to help.

Thanks, Laura Dixon, on behalf of Tigers Rugby Club and all the girl’s team coaches.
