Wheelchair Rugby Club Is A-Go!
On Thursday 5th October, Cheltenham Tigers hosted their first wheelchair rugby introductory session at Balcarras School.
The session was attended by 12 new players from the local area, with a variety of previous experience, ranging from players currently representing Great Britain’s Talent team, to players who have never played the game before. The session introduced basic ball skills and chair-to-chair contact, followed by a full-sided game. The coach, Tom Denmead, was impressed with the number and ability for players attending.
The club will be running three more introductory sessions on every Thursday in October. The sport is open to individuals with any physical impairment and the club offers opportunities to play competitively and recreationally. For more details, please email wheelchairrugby@cheltenhamtigers.com
Club Chairman added-
“We are absolutely delighted to be able to offer this form of the sport. Having watched it at the Olympics it has always been a dream to provide a platform for the sport. Proving we really do cater for all, inclusivity at it best. Since announcing the launch we have received significant amounts of interest and as the numbers build we would hope to provide our own facilities to support this and other sports indoors at Newlands”
