Wheelchair Rugby – June 2024

30th May 2024

Our WR5’s team made the shorter trip to Stoke Mandeville to compete in the second round of league fixtures against; RGC 1404, Harlequins, West Country Hawks, Leicester Tigers and Somerset Gladiators. Whilst we were unable to pick up a win (as expected as we are the only new team this year), the team battled well and took Harlequins to overtime. One of our players, Jess Hawkins, won the Best in Class Award for her classification. The last weekend of fixtures is later this month and we hope to build on the positives.

Tyler Walker – GB Squad

Cheltenham Tigers are pleased to announce that one of our players, Tyler Walker, has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Canada Cup from the 6th to the 9th June. Tyler, who resides in Gloucester, will be part of the squad that face Japan, Australia, France, Canada and USA, and the tournament acts as the final preparations ahead of the Paralympics in Paris later this Summer.

Tyler only started playing the sport 15 months ago, however, Great Britain spotted some potential and he was invited to be part of the talent squad after three months of playing the sport. When asked about what his expectations were for the tournament, Tyler “is hoping to win and develop as a team leading up to Paris”. Tyler’s ambition is to go to a Paralympics one day, and whilst his initial plans were to work towards Los Angeles in 2028, he is hoping to perform well to get on the plan to Paris. We wish Tyler the best of luck in Canada, and look forward to watching his progress in the tournament. We’ll keep you updated on his progress and the games are available to watch on Youtube.
