The U14 Cheltenham Tigers philosophy is to provide a player-centred, positive learning environment that allows young athletes to express themselves on the rugby pitch, both as individuals and as part of a team. As players transition into a more competitive phase of rugby, our focus is on developing confident decision-makers who understand the game as well as their role within it.
Our coaching team delivers this ethos through a game-centred approach, emphasising tactical awareness, problem solving and continued technical development, while encouraging players to take responsibility for their performance and growth.
An inclusive and welcoming group, we strive to embody the core rugby values of TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE and SPORTSMANSHIP in everything we do. While competition increases at U14, equal opportunity, fair game time and player enjoyment remain central to our approach.
We are fortunate to have a highly experienced coaching team committed to challenging and developing every player. With a large and diverse squad in terms of ability and experience, we aim to maintain a 1:10 coach-to-player ratio, ensuring individual development is supported within a strong team environment.
Player welfare is central to everything we do at Cheltenham Tigers U14s. All sessions and matches are planned and delivered in line with RFU Age Grade Rugby guidelines, with qualified, DBS-checked coaches prioritising safe technique, particularly in contact, tackle and breakdown situations. We promote open communication with players and parents, closely monitor player load, injuries and wellbeing, and encourage a culture where players feel confident to speak up. Our aim is to provide a safe, supportive environment that allows every player to develop, enjoy the game and stay healthy throughout the season.
